On 31 October 1996, Ethiopia Flag national flag was adopted by the constitution. It imitates to the specifications set out in Article 3 of the 1995 Constitution of Ethiopia. But, the diameter of the dominant disc was augmented. The three traditional colors of the flag are green, yellow and red.

The current Flag of Ethiopia and emblem were accepted after the overthrow of Ethiopia's Marxist regimes controlled by Mengistu Haile Mariam. The emblem is envisioned to represent both the diversity and unity of the republic. Blue signifies peace, the star was meant to represent diversity and unity, and the sun's rays symbolize prosperity. The green recalls the land, yellow stances for peace and hope, and red is for strength.

History of Ethiopia Flag

Ethiopia has usually recognized its green-yellow-red national flag with the rainbow always. According to the book of Genesis, God set in the heavens after the Flood. In 1975, a revolutionary government renowned a new coat of arms having socialist symbols. In 1987, President Mengistu Haile Mariam announced the People’s Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The rebels who conquered his regime in 1991 flew a humble green-yellow-red tricolor. Lastly, the new constitution for the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, accepted on February 6, 1996, additional a central blue disk with a yellow outlined and rayed star.

The flag of Ethiopia comprises of three horizontal bands, each of a diverse color. The top stripe is green and it signifies the land. Yellow is the midpoint band and represents peace and hope. Lastly, the final stripe is red and characterizes strength. The flag also contains a disc in the center with a star and sun rays. This design is to represent the unity and diversity of Ethiopia.
