In the year 1962, the national flag of Ghana was designed, adopted and flown over the land. It comprises of the Pan-African colors of red, gold, and green designed on the flat stripes, with a black five-pointed star in the center of the gold stripe. Ghana Flag was the second African ensign after the flag of the Ethiopian Empire to landscaping these colors.

The red signifies the blood of people struggled for independence from Great Britain. The gold in trhe Flag of Ghana represents the mineral wealth of the country. The color green depicts the country's rich forests and natural wealth. Lastly, the black star is the sign of African emancipation.

History of Ghana Flag

When Kwame Nkrumah prepared the Convention People’s Party in 1949 to effort toward more autonomy for the native African populates of the British Gold Coast, a flag was developed for the drive/movement. A simple horizontal tricolor of red-white-green, it converted well known throughout the Gold Coast as a sign of modernization and self-reliance. Self-government was presented in 1952, and independence was decided on March 6, 1957.

Since 1957, the Convention People’s Party flag was hoisting throughout the land. The country also learned a new name, founded on the empire of Ghana. It was the first of the sub-Saharan African states to attain independence. Thus, the inspiration ignited the feeling of freedom in the people took a leading role in the movement toward African liberation and unity. Its new flag booked the red and green stripes of the old, but it altered the white to yellow and added a black five-pointed star, mentioned to as the “lodestar of African freedom.
