Flag of Grenada

The national flag of Grenada was accepted upon freedom from the United Kingdom, 7 February 1974. Grenada Flag was designed by Anthony C. George of Soubise in Saint Andrew Parish. The civil standard is the same, but for a 1:2 rather than 3:5 ratio. The naval ensign is founded on the British White Ensign, with this flag in the canton.

The six stars in the red border signify the country's six parishes (provinces), with the middle star, bordered by a red disk, on behalf of Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Flag of Grenada sign in the hoist depicts a clove of nutmeg, one of the principal crops of Grenada. It also signifies a link to Grenada's former name, which was the "Isle of Spice". The red color of the flag stands for courage and energy, gold for wisdom and warmth, and green for vegetation and farming.

History of Grenada Flag

The first design of the flag was made in the 1950s for a alliance of all the British territories in the Caribbean Sea, however the larger parties wanted separate sovereignty. As a substitute to maintaining the colonial status that had existed for centuries, Britain obtained “associated statehood” to the residual smaller islands, counting Grenada. Although without military forces and global relations of their own, those states tolerant the offer became completely self-governing internally. Grenada entered into the agreement in 1967.

The symbol was retained when, in anticipation of freedom, a new flag was developed. Formally hoisted at midnight, February 06/07/1974, this uncommon design has a slantwise divided background of green for vegetation and yellow for wisdom and the sun. Around the superiority is a red border, symbolic of harmony and unity. The seven yellow stars depicts for the original administrative subdivisions of Grenada. This design is typical of the arresting new patterns that many Caribbean countries selected to evade the more common vertical and horizontal tricolors.

Grenada Flag Design and Symbolic Meaning

The flag of Grenada was formally accepted on February 7, 1974. Red is figurative of bravery, yellow of wisdom and warmth, and green of vegetation. The leftward green triangle landscapes a small nutmeg, the greatest famous creation of the island. The gold outer stars represent the six parishes, and the centered star represents the capital city of St. George's.

The Coat of Arms of Grenada is a protection divided into four parts by a excellent cross. In the midpoint of this cross is the Santa Maria, Columbus' ship. A British lion on a red field is exposed in the top left and bottom right sections of the shield having a golden crescent moon. Above the shield, there is a golden crown, topped with a garland of Bougainvillea twigs.
