On 23 May 1957, Hungary Flag was adopted as the nation flag of the country. The flag of Hungary features horizontal tricolor of red, white and green. The flag's designs have been taken from the national republican movements that happened during 18th and 19th centuries. However, the colors belong to the Middle-Ages.
The present Hungarian tricolor flag resembles the republican movement flag of the United Kingdom, which was used during 1816. The colors in Flag of Hungary provided in the available design were already being used the coronation of Leopold II in 1790.
During the anti-Soviet rebellion in 1956, rebels cut out the Hammer and Sickle symbol and used the resulting tricolor with a hole in the central as the symbol of the revolt. After passing of few months, the new government transformed the flag to bear the minor arms deprived of the crown as the badge again. In 1957, the Stalinist restoration subsequently the revolution was defeated by the Soviet Red Army, the new government modified a "new" coat of arms, which but was never formally put onto the flag. Therefore, the official flag of Hungary has been an unadulterated red-white-green tricolor since 1957. After the fall of communism in 1989 there was not an essentiality to change the flag, as it did not bear any communist emblem. There was a reference of the Committee of Symbols in the 2000s. This has not been applied in law, though the arms are legally permitted on the flag.
The myths of the romantic period accredited the colors to merits: red for strength, white for correctness and green for hope. Otherwise, red for the blood dropped for the fatherland, white for autonomy and green for the land, for the pastures of Hungary.
