The state flag of Nepal is the world's only non-quadrilateral flag that perform as both the state flag and civil flag of an autonomous nation. Nepal Flag is a simplified mixture of two single pennons known as a double-pennon. Its crimson red is the representation of bravery and it also signifies the color of the rhododendron, Nepal's national flower, while the blue edge is the color of peace. Until 1962, the flag's emblems, the sun and the semicircular moon, had human faces; however they were detached to modernize the flag.

The present flag was approved on 16 December 1962, along with the creation of a new constitutional government.
