Flag of Netherlands

The flag of the Netherlands landscapes a tri-band design. The top band of the flag is red, the centre is white, and the bottom band is blue. These colors are a modified of the orange, white and blue used during the Dutch Republic in the 17th century. Netherlands Flag is illustrative of the role of William I or Orange who struggled for the nation’s freedom from Spain.

The flag of the Netherlands is a flat tricolor of red, white, and blue. The modified design, orange-white-blue is taken from 16th century Prinsenvlag ("Prince's Flag"), the naval flag of the States-General of the Dutch Republic, and Statenvlag ("States Flag"). Flag of Netherlands perhaps the oldest tricolor flag in continuous use. Also, the flag is seemed to be inspired by Russian and French flags.

History of Netherlands Flag

In 1813, the Netherlands recouped its freedom from Spain. In the modern newspaper reports, the Prince of Orange reverted from exile that the red-white-blue flag was hoisted decorated with an orange pennant and solid‐colored orange flags. They displayed the flags in many places in the country as a sign of allegiance of the people to the House of Orange.

Just earlier the outbreak of World War II, the Prince's flag reappeared again. Some people were persuaded that orange, white, and blue were the true colors of the Dutch flag, mainly members of the National Socialist Movement in the Netherlands. To end the conversation, a regal decree recognized the colors of the Dutch flag as shadowed: 'The colors of the flag of the Kingdom of the Netherlands are red, white and blue'. It developed the shortest ruling in history, and was issued by Queen Wilhelmina on February 19, 1937.

On 16th of August, 1949 the exact color strictures were demarcated by the Ministry of the Navy as bright vermilion (red), white and cobalt blue. The pennant is typically added on King's Day and other festive cases related to the Royal Family.

Netherlands Flag Design and Symbolic Meaning

The flag of the Netherlands has an elementary flat tri-band design. The meaning of the flag lies within the colors selected. The colors applied in the flag of the Netherlands are built on the coat of arms of Prince William of Orange. The major change is the red stripe was originally orange in color. But, the orange dye first used was quite unbalanced and would ultimately turn red, leading the nation to change the official color to red.
