The flag of Rwanda is comprised of four colors. The first color, which has largest horizontal band on the Rwanda Flag, is light blue. The other two colors are yellow and green occupying almost the similar width in the flag.

Blue signifies peace and happiness, whereas, green in Flag of Rwanda is for hope and prosperity along with flora and fauna. The last color yellow stands for growth and development of the nation. Another shade of color yellow depicts the sun emblem in the corner, which is symbolic of enlightenment.

History of Rwanda Flag

One of the initial flags hoisted in Rwanda was of the German East Africa Company. This flag was later substituted with European colonial power. When Rwanda name was changed to Ruanda-Urundi, the flag of Belgium was adopted. Until 1959, the flag of Rwanda was used, however, just two years later another flag was adopted. This one was a tricolor hoisted the Pan-African colors of red, yellow and green, with a black letter unique it from the flag of Guinea. This flag was flown until 2001 however was changed due to the genocide of 1994. The new flag was taken on on October 25, 2001, and it has continued unmoved ever since.
