There are 44 European countries each with their own country Flags and capital states. The Flags of Europe or flags of European countries are their symbolic representations. Out of these 44 countries, some of them are transcontinental i.e. lie both in Asia and Europe and thus are considered to be the part of both. Europe accommodates 44 countries recognized by the UN out of which 28 are the members of the European Union. Homeland to the world’s most visited countries, spectacular arts, fascinating history and towering feats of nature, Europe is the second smallest continent of the world. Hence, European Union Europe lies to the west of the great Eurasian landmass and comprises a total area of 4, 000,000 sq. miles or 10,360,000 sq. km. Being surrounded by islands and peninsulas it becomes really difficult for Europe to form a unified whole. Conventionally, Europe is separated from Asia by the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus in the southeast, the Urals and the Ural river in the east, Black sea, sea of Marmara, the Bosporus and the Dardanelles in the south. Apart from this the Strait of Gibraltar and the Mediterranean Sea separates Europe from Africa. Further, Arctic ocean surrounds it from the North and the Atlantic Ocean from the west to which the Baltic Sea and the North Sea are connected.
Designed in the year 1950 the twelve-star European Flag or Flag of Europe was officially adopted by the Council of Europe on December 8, 1955, as a symbol for entire Europe. The Flag of Europe comprises of a circle of 12 yellow stars on a blue background representing the solidarity, harmony, and unity of the European countries. The European flag is the official symbol of two distinct international organizations i.e. the European Union (EU) and the Council of Europe. Apart from this common European flag, each country lying in Europe have their own flags i.e. Flag of Europe shouldn’t be confused with the flags of European countries.

Located entirely in the northern hemisphere and major part lying in the eastern hemisphere, Europe is continent that derives its name from Greek mythology. It was named behind the Phoenician princess Europa and is surrounded by water on three sides and lies in the temperate climate zones. It is one of the major tourist attractions i.e. it is the most visited continent in the world.
