Cote D'Ivoire Flag is comprised of three colors. It has a vertical triband of colors beginning from orange on the hoist side, white in the middle, and green on the right side of the flag.
The referendum that held in 1958 resulted in designating various colonies as "autonomous states". Among the different colonies, Cote D’Ivoire was one of them, which became independent on 4 December 1958. This created a need for having a nation flag to represent the land. The French commissioner suggested a red-white-and-blue flag with stars to adopt as a ivory coast Flag of Cote D'Ivoire. However, the government of Cote D'Ivoire made some modifications and presented orange-white-and-green flag, which was approved by law n°59-240, and sanctioned by the Ivorian Legislative Assembly on 3 December 1959.
Before it achieved its freedom, the Ivory Coast was administer and ruled by the French. Hence, the national flag presented during the rule belong to the French regime having a tricolor flag. However, the colony was chosen as an independent state in 1958. At that period, the Ivory Coast was allowable to accept a new flag. The flag was approved into law in 1959. The next year, the Ivory Coast professed full independence. During this time, a new constitution came into power and having flag with all new design was proposed. It was planned to change the color orange to red to signify the blood that the nation was eager to shed to protect its freedom. Though, legislators did not decide with this change, and the original flag was booked.
