Flag of Mali

Like several other African states, Mali’s flag uses the outdated Pan-African colors. The flag has a perpendicular tricolor design with stripes of green, yellow and red. Mali Flag has green color which represent the nation’s fertile lands. Yellow embodies purity and the mineral wealth of Mali. Lastly, red is symbolic of the lives that were assumed to earn the country’s independence from the rule of the French. The country also has a different flag that comprises the color black in the procedure of a stick figure centered in the flag with its arms elevated to the sky.

In 1959 Mali connected its riches with Senegal in the Mali Federation. Its constitution, accepted in January 1959, specified that the flag of the federation and its associate states was to have equivalent vertical bands of green-yellow-red with a black formalized human figure in the centre, his arms elevated toward heaven. In flag of Mali, the character, known as the kanaga, created with the Dogon people of Mali and was given contemporary meaning by the Negritude drive of West African and Caribbean intellectuals. In 1960, when Senegal and Mali split into distinct countries, Muslim fundamentalists in Mali protested to the human figure as being conflicting to the principles of Islam.

History of Mali Flag

The innovative flag of Mali was approved on April 4, 1959. This flag is really still in use by particular people today. The innovative flag has the same tricolor related but features a stick numeral with its arms upraised. This flag was accepted when the nation combined the Mali Federation. But, opposition by Islamic fundamentalists – who were in contradiction of the use of making pictures of the human figure – resulted in a new flag design in 1961. This is the present design that is still in use today. It was legitimately accepted on March 1, 1961.

Mali Flag Design and Symbolic Meaning

The project of Mali’s flag is simple, yet there is connotation behind each of the three colors used in the design. The insignia were used to characterize the fertility of the land, cleanliness and mineral wealth, and the blood that was shed in the land’s scuffle for independence from France.
